November 2007

01/11 A flock of maybe 10-15 Brambling mixed in with the Chaffinches at the end of Troutsdale, feeding amongst beech trees & hawthorns

02/11 Water Pipit at Cromer Pond am. Two Dark-bellied Brent Geese with the Wigeon flock at Scalby Mills. Woodcock, 2 chiffchaff, and 3 stonechat on castle hill 100 pink f goose south over marine drive
03/11 Long Nab (13.00-15.00); 16 Pomarine Skuas, 2 Little Gulls, Goosander, 3 Goldeneye, 100 Kittiwakes.
04/11 Long Nab (07.00-10.30); 7 Little Auks, 8 Pomarine Skuas, Bonxie, Sooty Shearwater, 24 Red t Divers, 5 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 57 Goldeneye, 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, Great-crested Grebe, 6 Eiders, and Snow Bunting in off sea. A Rough-legged Buzzard flew in off the sea near Scalby Lodge at 2pm and continued northwards.
05/11 Seven Little Auks along coast between Scalby Lodge and Long Nab, also 5 Woodcocks. Two Whooper Swans Scalby Lodge Pond. 21 Purple Sandpipers at harbour on east pier at high tide. Water Rail Cowath Beck.
06/11 Little Auk on sea off Long Nab this morning plus 120 Common Scoters.
08/11 Long-tailed Duck with 500 Common Scoter off Long Nab.
09/11 Long Nab (07.10-15.00): 883 Little Auks, 21 Pomarine Skuas, 3 Arctic Skuas, Grey Phalarope, Great Northern Diver, Sooty Shearwater, Whooper Swan. Two Long-tailed Ducks on sea and Snow Bunting behind hut.
10/11 Marine Drive (07.00-08.00): 26 Little Auks, Great Northern Diver, 3 Pochard, 4 Shags, all north.
11/11 Scarborough headland. A really big movement of Little Auks over the last few days down the North Sea coast, with the birds relocating north in their thousands. Long Nab(08.30-11.30); ad Pomarine Skua, 85 Little Auks, Puffin, Black-throated Diver, and drake Long-tailed Duck still off shore with Common Scoters. Seven Little Auks in South Bay plus Sanderling. Two Little Auks eaten by GBB Gulls in harbour. Past Marine Drive in two hours this afternoon; 142 Little Auks, juv Pomarine Skua, Velvet Scoter. 75 Little Auks past Scalby Mills in 45 mins at midday. A flock of pale bellied Brent Geese seen heading towards Northumberland, and well tracked along the coast. A large prportion of juveniles so presumably a family  group

12/11 Long Nab (07.00-14.00): 222 Little Auks, 2 Storm Petrels, 5 Great Northern Divers, 2 Black-throated Divers, 2 Velvet Scoters, 2 Long-tailed Ducks, 2 Gadwall, 20 Goldeneye, Snow Bunting flew in off sea and Merlin in field behind hut. Wykeham Lakes; Goosander, 3 Goldeneye & Merlin.

14/11 Two Black-throated Divers around the harbour, one in the harbour itself. Also Red t Diver, 4+ Little Auks and 35 Purple Sandpipers. Pomarine Skua eating a gull in Jackson's Bay + Bonxie north there.

15/11 Black-throated Diver still in harbour this afternoon. Red-throated Diver ,this bird was swimming around the east pier heading for the entrance.

16/11 Black-throated Diver still around the harbour. Four Waxwings in the Casino car park, North Street 1.15 pm
17/11 Black-throated Diver in harbour. Water Pipit Cromer Pond. Nine Whooper Swans Cayton Carrs.
18/11 Black-throated Diver still in the harbour, also one Little Auk. Long-tailed Duck off Long Nab still with 13 Common Scoters.
19/11 Black-throated Diver still in harbour.
20/11 Black-throated Diver and Puffin in the harbour
21/11 Six White-fronted Geese flew SW over Scalby Lodge Pond. Black-throated Diver still in harbour. Second-winter Med Gull Holbeck
22/11 First-winter Iceland Gull flew west over East Ayton this morning. Black-throated Diver still in harbour. Two Snow Buntings Jugger How Moor plus a Wheatear. Red Throated Diver in the harbour, Black throated diver off the harbour wall,37 Purple Sandpipers roosting

22/11 60+ Siskins Wykeham Forest. Three Med Gulls at Holbeck car park.

23/11 Five Pomarine Skuas past Marine Drive this morning plus Velvet Scoter. Black-throated Diver still in the harbour. Marine drive 8 little Auk, 1 Velvet Scoter, 2 Fulmar all north, at the harbour 1 little Auk, 2 Red throated Diver, 51 Purple Sandpiper (high tide roost), 1 Sanderling, 56 Turnstone.
25/11 Great Grey Shrike seen briefly in Langdale Forest this morning betwen Birch Hall and Langdale Rigg End, also 30 Crossbills. Twelve Whooper Swans at Flotmanby Carr (2 miles west of Muston). Black-throated Diver in the harbour plus Little Auk and several flew north. Five Med Gulls at Holbeck Car Park.

26/11 Male Desert Wheatear Cromer Point feeding from fenceposts by the pond this afternoon. Black-throated Diver in harbour.Marine Drive (07.45-11.30): 35 Little Auks, Pomarine Skua, 2 Great Northern Divers, 6 Red t Divers, 8 Goldeneye, RB Merganser.

27/11 Desert Wheatear still at Cromer Point just inland from point. Black-throated Diver harbour. Firecrest Crook Ness by steps.
28/11 Firecrest Crook Ness, Long Nab. Juv Glaucous Gull flew west Cromer Point, Water Pipit
on pond & Desert Wheatear. Seven Med Gulls Holbeck. Water Rail Northstead Manor Gardens.
29/11 Little Auk off the harbour, Black-throated Diver still there. Desert Wheatear and
Water Rail still present.
